Aspire S5: Officially the Thinnest Ultrabook in the Market

logo

One of the most awaited events at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas was the launch of the Acer Aspire S5. This compact and powerful ‘ultrabook’ was one of the 60 different ones launched during this event but what astounds everyone who experiences it is that it somehow manages to be lighter, more powerful and even more stylish than the others in its category. The Aspire S5 manages to shave 2mm off the thickness of the Apple Macbook Air and measures a mere 15mm thick.

This beautifully designed Ultrabook has a 13.3-inch (34 cm) LCD screen which is more than sufficient for most people. It has been provided with a few I/O ports, all of which merge beautifully in its design. The ‘MagicFlip’ I/O panel that the Acer Aspire S5 has is motorized and it flips out in order to allow access to HDMI, USB 3.0 and 20 Gbps Thunderbolt ports.

The Aspire S5 is surprisingly tough for its sleek and stylish looks. Most people who see it are drawn towards its elegantly fluid chassis. The chassis is made of a special magnesium-aluminum alloy that provides the machine with resistance to shock.

The Aspire S5 is equipped with an Intel Core Processor as well as Dolby Home Theater v4. If you are worried about its battery life you can be assured that its PowerSmart battery pack has 3 times longer life than ordinary batteries.

If there is any drawback to the Acer Aspire S5, it is that its screen is only 13.3-inchs and gives a resolution of 1366×768. People who need a larger screen should be prepared to buy a thicker Ultrabook! It will be interesting to see how Acer has priced this one.
